Diablo 3 Barbarian
I’ve always enjoyed playing tanks. When I played Dark Age of Camelot, I played the Hibernian Hero. When I played World of Warcraft, Staghorn the Warrior, not Oxhorn, was my first character. When I play Oxhorn the Druid, I roll feral. I love tanks.
This is why I started with the Barbarian, and I couldn’t be happier. Watch me play the first half of Act I in the Diablo 3 beta below, and then I’ll break down the Barbarian class.
Oxhorn Plays the Diablo 3 Barbarian
Barbarian – What Is It
The Barbarian is a meat-shield-damage-dealer. He specializes in taking damage and dealing damage. The Barbarian can wear all heavy armor and has a number of abilities that can hit single targets and multiple targets.
Diablo 3 Barbarian – Armor
As with many RPGs, you start out wearing cloth and leather scraps. However, over time the Barbarian can wear the best plate armor in the game. He can also use shields, but at the same time he can dual-wield weapons or use two-handed weapons.
Diablo 3 Barbarian – Weapons
The Barbarian can wield all weapons in the game, except for staves, bows and wands. He specializes in wielding two-handed weapons.
Diablo 3 Barbarian Abilities
The Barbarian‘s abilities are divided into three types; those that generate FURY, those that consume FURY and those that are situational–some are ‘EPIC’ abilities that consume energy and are on long cooldowns; some consume and generate nothing, but are on a long COOLDOWN, and others are available only when a certain EVENT takes place (like making a critical hit, for example).
The Diablo III Beta is limited, and so we have access to only a few of the Barbarian‘s abilities. I will share with you what the Barbarian can do so far, with a guide on how to kill the Skeleton King at the end.

How to Defeat the Skeleton King as a Barbarian
By the time you reach the Skeleton King you will onlybe level 8 or 9. I suppose you could be much higher if you leveled a lot, and if so, ignore this. But here is the strategy.
The Skeleton King is a dual-weilding, hard hitting melee monster. With your templar friend that you picked up along the way set to heal, just dive right in and attack the King with your Barbarian.
Every now and then he teleports and summons a horde of skeletons. This is why you should have Cleave set to your left-click mouse button. This way, you can focus your attacks on the King and you’ll end up killing all skeletons in your way at the same time.
Set your right-mouse button to Leap Attack, so that you can instantly engage the King again when he teleports away, instead of being held back by the skeletons. Use whatever combination of Fury consuming spells you wish in the intereim. I liked using Hammer of the Ancients. So, the battle goes like this:
- Engage with Hammer of the Ancients and Cleave.
- When he teleports away and summons skeletons, use Leap Attack to jump to him and spam Cleave on him until all the skeletons around you are dead. Then resume with Hammer of the Ancients.
There you go! Please leave me a comment with your thoughts on this guide and watch my other Diablo 3 videos.
